Star Teacher Awards Heads to Birmingham

ORLANDO - (February 23, 2009) – Bright House Networks is pleased to announce this year’s Star Teacher Award Winner’s Trip destination will be to Birmingham, Alabama.  The Star Teacher Awards program, now in its 20th year, has taken the brightest and best teachers to cities across the country including: Washington, New York, Chicago and Savannah.

The Star Teacher Winner’s Trip is scheduled for June 15 through 17.  As in year’s past, Bright House Networks plans to recognize up to 30 outstanding teachers who use cable in the classroom programming to enhance students’ learning experiences.  This year’s deadline for entries is Monday, March 2.

The all expense paid trip to Birmingham and an invitation to the annual Star Teacher Awards Gala at the Birmingham Museum of Art are part of being named a 2008-2009 Star Teacher Award winner. In Birmingham, teachers will learn about the history of Birmingham and explore the city’s art and culture.  In addition, they’ll have the opportunity to see the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and experience the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Along with the trip and gala, Bright House Networks will award each Star Teacher winner a share of a $10,000 cash prize and a Tiffany Crystal Star.  The Bright House Networks Star Teacher Awards program is sponsored by A&E and NBC Universal Cable.

“Every year we look forward to seeing the variety of programming we offer to our customers and the education community, really making a difference in the lives of students,” said Kevin Hyman, Executive Vice President, Cable Operations.  “I encourage all teachers in our service areas to consider entering so we can honor them for doing such great jobs in their classrooms.”

A maximum of ten projects - from a field of dozens - will be selected as winning entries.  Teachers may enter projects as individuals or as teams of up to three teachers.  Last year, 24 teachers, representing ten projects, won the prestigious award.  To be eligible to enter projects for consideration in the Bright House Networks National Star Teacher Awards, teachers must be in a state accredited public or private school (K-12) located within a Bright House Networks service area.  Classroom projects should have occurred between September 1, 2008 and February 15, 2009.  For more information, visit the Star Teacher Award section on the Bright House Networks website.

Bright House Networks provides the connection and basic cable service free to virtually all schools in the company’s service areas.  Connected schools receive more than 540 hours of commercial-free, educational programming each month at no charge through Bright House Networks membership in Cable in the Classroom.
